I have another trainer collar for my 65 lb. healer mix. It’s a Sport dog collar made by the brand, Innotek. It is what I would classify as “RECHARGEABLE” because the collar itself is what you plug into the charger. You must put batteries in the remote, but I’ve had the product now for over a year and haven’t bought new batteries yet. I just purchased this collar by Petsafe. I have to say, I’m a little Pi**ed off. The collar DOES NOT plug into the charger. It has a little “battery pack” that is housed in a plastic shell which fits into the collar. (Notice, they sell these battery packs on Amazon) Of course, you cannot just go out to the hardware store and buy batteries when the ones you have die, because you have to have the petsafe EXTRA SPECIAL battery thing-a-ma-jigger. Really, it’s just another way to rip off consumers since the collar itself is what requires the most juice, I assume I will be needing new batteries quite often. Plus, my collar came with dead batteries. Charming.

HOWEVER! I am a resourceful and defiant woman so I used my handy dandy hobby snips and a pair of pliers and trimmed off the plastic around the top of the plastic battery housing. I removed the battery and then just to make sure it still worked, popped it back in. Then I went and bought a pack of two standard electronic batteries and put them in. VOILA! F**k off Petsafe! P.S. Don’t forget to RECYCLE old batteries, they are extremely toxic!

BOTTOM LINE: Buy some hobby snips and pliers.

ANOTHER BOTTOM LINE: Other than an attempt to outwit a goddess of brilliance, Petsafe has made pretty cool little collar. It’s the only one that has a 400yd. range and also provides the ‘tone only’ option. Wonderbar! Buy it! But BEWARE!!!! Dun dun dun dun…

The unit that hangs around the neck is very heavy. So heavy, in fact, that I have not used it so far. Also, I did not expect to have to shave the neck to create a contact for the two prongs that are supposed to make contact. This is not at all what I expected.

Charged per instructions. Transmitter did not start blinking after 12 hours as per manual (receiver did). Called company. On hold for a long time. Then e-mailed them. First e-mail non-responsive to question and said, “I will be happy to provide you with the proper warranty exchange procedures and of any cost involved”

Huh? Way too much hassle and I don’t want to pay again for something I just paid for. Their warranty says parts for life and labor for first year, but I wonder how much the “cost involved” would be in the future.

Back to Amazon this goes. Have to find something else because now delivery is 2-4 weeks from Amazon. I wonder if it is because they have to ship two or more to every customer so they can get one that works.

I have a basset hound that follows her nose at all costs. I have a lot of property and I like to have the option to walk her off leash, but she got in the habit of routinely bolting in the bush and not coming back when called. This solved that problem almost instantly. i do have the petsafe underground fence for my dogs so she was likely alreay used the idea of reponding to the tones. I find that the tone is enough and i rarely have had to use the static correction. i feel a lot better about taking the dogs for hikes with this. I would add that i have purchased several petsafe products and i find them to be an excellent company to deal with. Their customer service is absolutely amazing!

We got our Petsafe Remote Trainer for a very good price. So far, we have worked successfully with our dog on a number of commands. I would recommend this product as a training aid, especially with a particularly stubborn dog.
